Summary Job Profile

The Bridge is looking for an energetic individual who likes to teach youth new kitchen skills. They will need to be someone who is very organized and has strong administrative and interpersonal skills to oversee the Bridge’s potential new social enterprise endeavour. This individual will also have to batch cook meals to serve to the youth various days of the week and be responsible for the coordination of food donations, grocery shopping and safe food handling practices.

Reports to: Operations Manager, The Bridge Youth Resource Centre

Job Wage: $20/hr.

Contract Position: Until June, 2023 (20-30 hours per week)

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work with head volunteer cooks on meal planning and recipe development to develop a monthly meal calendar
  • Ensure aspects of the safe food handling standards and Canada’s Food Guide are abided by
  • Grocery shop for nightly meals, social enterprise, kitchen skills and nutrition programs, as well as supportive housing facility
  • Implement and provide input into kitchen skills programming
  • Oversee implementation of social enterprise, including potential for leadership over youth support staff
  • Supervision of supportive housing facility, as required.
  • Other responsibilities as identified by the Supervisor

Education and Experience:

  • Must have safe food handling certification or be willing to get certificate
  • Must have a passion for cooking and baking, familiarity with meal planning and Canada’s Food Guide
  • Previous experience in teaching kitchen skills is an asset
  • Previous experience working with the youth population is an asset
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Mental Health First Aid/ASIST, First Aid & CPR certificates are an asset

Qualifications:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, team environment
  • Proficiency in the area of computers and Microsoft Office programs
  • Strong administrative abilities

Other:

  • Satisfactory criminal reference with vulnerable sector check
  • Valid “G” Ontario driver’s licence
