Crossing Cultures – A Journey to Canada

The South Essex Community Council Newcomer Youth Group provides a welcoming environment for high school students who are new to Canada. The Newcomer Youth group meets three times per week at the Leamington Recreation Complex after school on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.  The youth are offered a multiple services including group activities, community involvement, mentor matches, volunteer opportunities, homework time and other social events.  The youth group also assists high school student to develop leadership training and provide youth with opportunities to learn new things about Canadian culture. A Client Success

Peter Saba came to SECC seeking retraining at first.  Gabe Ligotino, Program Leader for Employment Connections, worked with Peter on a career goal that he felt best suited him.  Throughout the process, Peter expressed interest in eventually owning his own business. South Essex Community Council has been a partner in a community services hub for 18 years.  Come to 215 Talbot Street East in Leamington and you will find us, along with a host of other services that you and your friends and family can access.  The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is here.  Did you know they have free dental clinics for low-income families, and parenting classes for new parents?  If you need a social insurance number or you need to apply for Employment Insurance, Service Canada is here at the “hub”.  The City of Windsor Social Services is also here… Continue Reading Community Services Hub
