Paying it Forward to Adult Students

In September 2017, SECC changed the structure of its evening Language classes for newcomers. This new model incorporated more volunteer tutors to lead small group sessions. The time commitment for this new position at one evening per week for a four-month time period was a deterrent to some volunteers. The first person to step forward to assist was Marjolein, and she wanted to help all three nights. When asked why she chose to volunteer with SECC, Marjolein replied, “I chose to be a volunteer because I wanted to add a dimension to my life where I could be of service… Continue Reading Paying it Forward to Adult Students

Request for Proposals – Meals on Wheels

South Essex Community Council has been delivering hot, nutritious lunches to seniors, persons convalescing and persons with disabilities for more than thirty years.   The length of time a person remains on service is determined by their needs.  Some are short-term, following an illness or surgery, and some may stay on the MOW program for an extended period of time.  Clients, especially those living alone, may lose interest in food and neglect to prepare good, nutritious meals for themselves.  SECC’s Meals on Wheels program provides a hot nutritious meal once per day.  In addition, the volunteers delivering the meals provide a… Continue Reading Request for Proposals – Meals on Wheels
