Community Connections

This program strives to foster a welcoming environment for Newcomers through multiple services including mentor matches, group activities, volunteer opportunities and other social events.
A Newcomer Youth group meets three times per week at the Leamington Recreation Complex. Youth participate in activities devised to strengthen their leadership skills and foster settlement and integration into Canada.

Canadian Citizenship classes are also offered to assist Newcomers with studying for the Citizenship test. These classes are 8-10 weeks in length and offered in September, January and April. Course content is based on the Discover Canada: The Rights and Responsibilities of Canadian Citizenship study guide. Students have access to practice tests to monitor their knowledge levels and to develop a comfort level with the examination format.

The program also works to raise awareness of diversity through training in local businesses. Workshops related to diversity awareness are available to both employers and employees alike and stress the importance of respecting diversity in the workplace. To access any of these programs call SECC and ask for the Community Connections Worker.
