Meet the Bees – SECC Volunteers

In celebration of National Volunteer Week – SECC is profiling the story of two of our volunteers – Bob & Sharon Bee.20160122_105214

Bob & Sharon Bee have been volunteers for the South Essex Community Council, a non-profit organization that services the needs of diverse populations in Essex County, since September 2014. Within this time frame, they have proven themselves to be outstanding volunteers whose contributions of time, resources and compassion have made a valuable difference in the lives of so many!

Currently, the couple delivers Meals on Wheels once a week in the town of Kingsville to ensure that seniors and persons with disabilities have access to hot, nutritious, and affordable meals. When delivering these meals to residents’ homes, Bob & Sharon also provide companionship to lonely and isolated individuals and ensure that they are safe and sound. Rain or shine, these steadfast volunteers can always be depended on to complete their meal deliveries and to help out in a pinch when other volunteers may be unavailable.

On Christmas Day last year, this duo went beyond the call of duty and offered to deliver meals within Leamington and Kingsville to ensure that residents without family or friends in the area had a chance to see some friendly faces and to enjoy a nice meal. This is just one example of the dedication that this duo continues to show to the organization and to the individuals accessing service.

In addition to delivering Meals on Wheels, Bob & Sharon have gladly given their time to assist with the Annual Coats for Kids Campaign, SECC’s Chilifest Fundraiser, and have expressed interest in helping out with SECC’s Volunteer Income Tax Clinic this year.

It’s evident that Bob & Sharon are pleased to help out any way they can and that they find assurance in knowing that individuals in the community who might otherwise be at risk are safe and that their basic needs are being met. They have also mentioned that they’ve had the opportunity to meet some wonderful people in the process of volunteering. Not only do these two provide a positive example for others, but they represent the community at its very best!

Both Bob & Sharon were born and raised in Leamington. Throughout their lives together, they called many places their home, until deciding to move back to Kingsville to enjoy their retirement there, surrounded by family and long-time friends.
