$14.00 hourly, plus vacation and statutory benefits in accordance with Employment Standards Act.)
19.5hr/week (regular) Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 10am – 4:30pm, plus occasional evenings as required for events and programs.
The Programming & Development Coordinator (PDC) assists with the development and delivery of programs such as exhibitions, events and education as well as fund development and public support programs such as membership, donations, fundraisers and grants. The PDC delivers excellent visitor services in the areas of sales, interpreting and promulgating artwork, programs and services. The PDC is a warm and friendly personality who also maintains a high level of professionalism, aptitude and ability in their role also providing administrative and clerical support.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provides support in all areas of programing and administrative support including, but not limited to: exhibitions, events and education; duties such as artist liaison, submissions and acquisitions of artwork, handling, coordinating and tracking, forms, contracts and database management, graphic design, printing, disseminating information; inventory stocking and orders;
- Development support in areas of fundraising, grants, membership, donation, sponsorship
- Delivers a welcoming reception at the gallery; acts as visitor services attendant
- Point of Sales: artwork, art supply sales, submission fees, memberships, rental fees, etc.
- Clerical Duties: answers phones, emails and other office related duties and tasks
- Assists with day to day operations
- Maintains an enthusiastic, positive and professional attitude
- Displays productive and accurate workmanship
Skills & Qualifications:
Post-secondary education or 3+ years experience in a related field; previous executive assistant, office and clerical experience and/or guest services experience; initiative, independence and ability work with minimal supervision; displays professional, productive and accurate workmanship and organizational skills; excellent written and oral communication skills; high degree of computer literacy, including MS Office and social media expertise; experience in graphics applications, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator are an asset; smart serve training and food handlers course an asset. Must be legally eligible to work in Canada; have an appreciation for the arts and working with people; a reliable mode/means of transportation; Police Information Search (criminal reference check): Because of the environment this position will be working in, the successful candidate will be required to furnish an original Police Information Search (criminal reference check) (working with vulnerable persons).
Walking: on level and un-level surfaces onside and at offsite events, (general duties of handling artwork, mailing, giving tours of the gallery, etc.) Sitting: constant sitting in a chair at the computer. Hands: constant fine finger dexterity (movement), mousing (processes a large amount of paperwork, form, contracts, and paperwork, etc.; in addition to updating social media and websites and answering e-mails). Bending: occasional stooping, twisting, kneeling, crouching, squatting, (routinely the LAC accepts artwork deliveries and hosts events, which include): a) loading artwork in and out of the gallery and into storage (weight up to 50lbs.); b) required to set up for meetings and events (including: moving tables, bars, boxes of wine/beer, preparing food); c) responsible for moving and hanging art; Reaching: infrequent reaching backward; occasional reaching above shoulder, below shoulder, forward, handling and hanging of artwork; Lifting: infrequent lifting pushing at or above shoulder, pushing below shoulder; occasional lifting floor to waist, waist to shoulder, at shoulder, above shoulder, overhead, carrying, transferring, dragging (between 10 to 50lbs) Lifting is a frequent activity; work needs to be lifted onto plinths or sometimes mounted to a wall; Standing: infrequent standing inside (except gallery tours and opening receptions, which require standing for prolonged periods of time); Climbing: routinely climbing ladders; occasional climbing stairs (changing/moving lights, hanging artwork, etc.)
About the LAC:
The Leamington Arts Centre (LAC) is located in the heart of South Western Ontario’s beautiful uptown Leamington in one of the town’s many wonderful heritage buildings. The LAC is a 10,000 square foot, state-of-the-art, and fully accessible facility, which offers 4 exhibition spaces, education studio spaces, meeting space, the market place café and wine bar and an art supply store. The LAC is a community meeting space and hub for the arts and culture in Leamington and Essex County featuring up to 40 diverse exhibitions each year in its 4 exhibition spaces, a permanent collection, appraisal services, tours, facility rentals, artist markets and much more.
The LAC was established as the South Essex Arts Association in 1971 as a charitable not-for-profit arts organization dedicated to creating and sustaining a celebration of the human spirit through the nurturing of the arts with our community.
