Summer Job Services
Provides
summer employment opportunities to students and hiring incentives of $2.00 per
hour to employers who provide summer jobs.
Who benefits from the program?
Students who are returning to school in
the Fall and are between the ages of 15-24 and up to 29 for those who have a
disability.
Student Eligibility
To be eligible for a subsidized placement, students
must be:
- 15-24 years of age, up to 29 for persons with disabilities
- Planning to return to school in the fall
- Eligible to work in Canada
- Hired by a person to whom they are NOT related
- Not currently working for the employer applying for the hiring incentive
(Some exceptions may apply)
Employer Eligibility
To be eligible for a subsidized placement,
employers must:
- Operate and offer a job in Ontario
- Be in the private, non-profit or broader public sectors
- Not be related to the student(s) they are hiring
- Be in compliance with WSIB or alternative workplace insurance and third
party liability insurance
- Not displace existing staff
- Not hire students before program begins (some exceptions)
- Not be receiving other governments funds for the same student.
Benefits
Summer Jobs Service (SJS) is a program that focuses on
providing students with work experience during the summer months. Although the
subsidized component of the program of the SJS is available in April of each
year, students and employers begin their summer job search and recruiting as
early as January.
