Dressing for an Interview
There are a few stead and fast rules that are
applicable to any job interview: Always look neat and clean-showered,
finger nails clean, general personal hygiene. Make sure your
clothes fit, wear something that you have worn before and know it fits
well and looks nice, you don't want to be adjusting yourself or pulling
down too short sleeves in the middle of the interview. Don't overdue
trends and keep in mind that moderation is the key. If you smoke
or someone in your home does make sure your clothing is free of the
smoke smell because some employers may be allergic or find the smell
offensive. On a similar note do not wear perfume or cologne, some
people are allergic or may not like the particular scent you happen to
be wearing. And above all, dress to impress for all situations
because you do not have a second chance to make a good 1st impression.
Some ideas on what to wear include the following:
For men, in a formal business setting, wear a suit, sports jacket and
remain conservative till you get to know the 'tone' of the
business. In a less formal business, wear a sports jacket,
sweater with a tie, sports shirt and dress pants. If working
clothes are required for the job and you think you may be hired, take
them along and keep them in your car.
For women, in a formal business setting, wear a
suit, both pants or skirt are acceptable. Keep your attire
conservative and wear sensible heels. In a less formal business,
wear a skirt or dress pants with a dress shirt or sweater. Coordinated
outfits are also recommended.
