Apprenticeship is an on-the-job training program for people who want to work in a skilled trade or occupation. It includes learning new hands-on skills while working directly with skilled journeypersons. Apprentices are paid while gaining work experience and take short term training courses to advance through the program levels. There are over 150 apprenticable trades in Ontario in four sectors: construction, motive power, service and industrial/manufacturing. Employment Services staff can assist you in researching what apprenticeship might be best for you, securing an employment opportunity with a local employer and assist with registration with the Ontario College of Trades.
